In a remarkable alliance, Barbour and Gucci have collaborated on an eco-conscious project, unveiling the Gucci Continuum Collection. Following the success of their chic partnership with Ganni, Barbour has now ventured into sustainability with Gucci, creating a distinctive collection that showcases both brands’ commitment to the environment.
The Gucci Continuum Collection, a pioneering program by the Italian fashion giant, offers deadstock fabrics to other brands for exclusive collaborations. This collaboration with Barbour resulted in eight jackets, three gilets, and a bucket hat, all crafted from heritage Gucci deadstock materials, including iconic red velvet from one of Tom Ford’s memorable collections.
Barbour’s skilled artisans in their South Shields Factory meticulously restored and transformed these fabrics into a stunning array of Re-Loved jackets, breathing new life into archival materials. Paul Wilkinson, the group commercial director of Barbour, expresses pride in this sustainable endeavor, emphasizing the collective effort to reduce environmental impact.
Gary Janes, Barbour’s senior design and development manager, shares insights into the creative challenges of melding Gucci’s iconic tapestries and delicate silk fabrics with Barbour’s traditional wax cotton. Despite the differences, the collaboration stands as a testament to celebrating the heritage of both brands while embracing a circular fashion future.
Witness the convergence of two distinct brand aesthetics, navigating the complexities of fabric diversity to champion sustainability. The project exemplifies Barbour Re-Loved and Gucci Continuum as innovative approaches to fashion, reutilizing existing products and fabrics to minimize environmental impact and ensuring garments are cherished for years to come.
