In the era of “Barbie,” Margot Robbie and stylist Andrew Mukamal have teamed up to curate an extraordinary collection of custom fashions for the billion-dollar grossing movie’s press tour. The culmination of their creative journey is captured in the upcoming fashion photo book, “Barbie: The World Tour.”
Since the debut of “Barbie” at CinemaCon in April 2022, Robbie has graced red carpets and press appearances in stunning Barbiecore styles. From custom Armani inspired by 1977’s Superstar Barbie at the Golden Globes to a plethora of meticulously curated outfits, each moment will now be immortalized in the pages of the fashion photo book.
Mukamal shared his inspiration for the book in an Instagram post, stating, “This book is a labor of love, dedicated to all the Barbie lovers and fashion fans around the world.” The cover features a Barbie-fied Robbie adorned in a pink Chanel suit, embodying the essence of the iconic doll.
The “Barbie” press tour took Robbie, writer-director Greta Gerwig, and the cast on a summer world tour, with stops in Toronto, Sydney, Seoul, Mexico City, Los Angeles, and London. Mukamal curated outfits at each location, paying homage to looks worn by the original doll.
When the press tour was cut short due to the SAG-AFTRA strike in July, Robbie and Mukamal collaborated with renowned fashion photographer Craig McDean to capture the curated looks in Los Angeles, London, and airports worldwide. The result is a visually stunning portrayal of Barbie-inspired fashion.
The book, set to release on March 8 by Rizzoli publishing, includes a foreword by Edward Enninful, an introduction by Margaret Zhang, and an afterword by “Barbie” filmmaker Greta Gerwig. It promises to be a celebration of joy, unapologetic style, and the craftsmanship behind each bold look, offering readers a glimpse into the immersive “Barbie” experience.
