The Wylie Historical Society recently hosted a captivating event that took attendees on a journey through fashion history. At the inaugural Vintage Fashion Show fundraiser, held on January 27th at St. Anthony Catholic Church, guests were treated to a delightful display of vintage attire accompanied by a catered box lunch.
Fashion enthusiasts from near and far, including Wichita Falls, Fort Worth, and Denton, gathered to witness the evolution of style from 1887 to 1987, spanning the first century of Wylie’s existence.
The runway featured models from the Women’s Vintage Society of Dallas, showcasing ensembles ranging from the 1900s to the 1980s. Additionally, Heritage Village at Chestnut Square in McKinney contributed to the event by displaying delicate gowns from the 1880s and 1890s, offering a glimpse into the past.
Attendees were not mere spectators; they had the chance to participate in a lively costume contest. Awards were presented in various categories, including Most Authentic, Most Original, Best Out-of-the-Box, Best Overall, Attendee Favorite, and Best Story Behind the Costume. Heidi Foist of the Farmersville Historical Society clinched the coveted title of Best Overall Costume.
The event was not only a feast for the eyes but also offered exciting door prizes generously provided by 20 local merchants. Among the prizes was a grand reward—a one-night stay at the historic Gallagher House in Wylie.
