Ssense, the Montreal-based online luxury retailer, has launched a new AI-powered chatbot to provide personalized styling advice and shopping recommendations for customers. Developed in partnership with OpenAI, the chatbot seamlessly integrates with ChatGPT Plus to deliver an enhanced conversational commerce experience.
The new Ssense chatbot utilizes a combination of OpenAI’s generative AI models and Ssense’s own proprietary technology. It allows ChatGPT Plus subscribers to access the chatbot via a downloadable plug-in from the OpenAI store.
With this integration, shoppers can engage the Ssense chatbot in natural conversation to receive AI-generated product recommendations suited to their unique style and preferences. For example, users can request “cool, luxury streetwear-inspired outfits in neutral colors” and receive specific item suggestions that can be mixed and matched.
Ssense first explored the possibilities of AI styling assistance on its Instagram account earlier in 2023. The retailer now joins fashion industry leaders like Shopify, Mercari, Zalando, and Kering’s KXNT in leveraging conversational AI to replicate the guided shopping experience of human sales associates online.
While still an emerging technology, generative AI chatbots aim to understand shopper needs through natural language conversations to then suggest relevant products. This represents a major evolution from scripted responses of earlier chatbots. As the capabilities of AI advance, so too will the utility of these virtual styling assistants.
