In an exclusive interview with Us Weekly, Molly Sims sheds light on her mission to combat toxic beauty standards, especially when it comes to her children.
The 50-year-old actress and model recently shared her own struggles with unrealistic beauty standards, recounting how she was once deemed “too fat” to model in the ’90s. Now, as a mother of three—Scarlett (9), Brooks (11), and Grey (7)—with husband Scott Stuber, Sims is determined to instill a healthy body image in her kids.
Speaking at the Laughter Is the Best Medicine Gala in Los Angeles, where she attended with her daughter Scarlett, Sims emphasized the importance of body positivity. “We don’t talk about being skinny. We talk about being healthy. We talk about taking care of our mental health. We talk about building up our confidence,” Sims revealed. She stressed the effort required to navigate societal pressures and promote self-esteem among children.
Reflecting on her past experiences, Sims expressed disbelief at how external judgments once affected her self-perception. “How in the world did I ever think or let someone make me feel that I wasn’t good enough? That I was heavy or too fat?” Sims questioned. Despite societal progress, she acknowledged the ongoing challenges and hoped for continued improvement.
Sims’ revelations come after she candidly discussed her early modeling days on the podcast “Getting Grilled With Curtis Stone,” revealing the criticisms she faced about her appearance.
In her commitment to fostering a positive environment, Sims serves as a role model for her children and advocates for a culture of acceptance and self-love.
