The Victoria’s Secret angels are back! The iconic Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show is set to make a grand return this fall for the first time since 2018. The much-anticipated comeback promises to deliver the glamour, runway, wings, and musical entertainment that fans have missed.
Victoria’s Secret made the exciting announcement through an Instagram video, captioned: “We’ve read the comments and heard you. The Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show is BACK, and will reflect who we are today, plus everything you know and love — the glamour, runway, wings, musical entertainment, and more. Stay tuned … it only gets more iconic from here.” The video featured a phone message to “The VS Squad” with texts reading, “Models to the runway!” and “Pack your wings.” A reply simply stated, “We are Back!”
Notable in the announcement video was Candice Swanepoel, a renowned model and a long-time face of the show. Victoria’s Secret, owned by L Brands, had canceled the show in 2019 due to declining ratings and criticisms over a lack of diversity and inclusivity. Between 2016 and 2018, the show lost over half of its viewership, according to The Associated Press.
The cancellation led many to praise alternative shows like Rihanna’s Savage X Fenty for their diverse representation. An X user named Tee said, “Honestly, after watching Rihanna’s SavageXFenty show and seeing the diversity in skin tones, shapes, ethnicities, and the actual performance level, I wasn’t even planning on watching the Victoria’s Secret show.”
Victoria’s Secret is hinting at a renewed vision for the 2024 show, aiming to meet modern expectations. “The 2024 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show will deliver precisely what our customers have been asking for — the glamour, runway, fashion, fun, wings, entertainment — all through a powerful, modern lens reflecting who we are today,” the brand said in a statement to Scripps News. “We’re thrilled to share a women-led articulation of this iconic property later this year!”
Regulars on the fashion show stage have included models like Adriana Lima and Alessandra Ambrosio, with performances by artists such as Ariana Grande, The Weeknd, Taylor Swift, and Justin Bieber. There’s no word yet on who will be modeling or performing this year, but anticipation is building.
