The Vampire’s Wife, the cult fashion brand founded by Susie Cave and loved by celebrities like Florence Welch and Kylie Minogue, has announced its closure.
Susie Cave, who is married to Australian musician and writer Nick Cave, took to Instagram to share the news. “After ten years as The Creative Director of The Vampire’s Wife, it is time for me to say goodbye,” began her heartfelt message.
She continued, “I say this with great sadness and want to express my undying gratitude to you all for your support. I wish to thank my extended family at The Vampire’s Wife who helped me create such beautiful things. I cannot describe how much you have all meant to me. I love you all, Susie x.”
The Vampire’s Wife, known for its iconic Falconetti dress with sharp shoulder pads and a cinched waist, as well as its use of jewel-toned and brightly colored lamé fabrics, first opened its doors in 2014. The brand’s custom beaded tote bags were also a favorite among stars like Harry Styles and Brad Pitt.
“Despite a period of positive growth and sales, the upheaval in the wholesale market has had dramatic implications for the brand,” read a statement from The Vampire’s Wife. “We would like to express our heartfelt thanks to all clients, partners, and those who have worn the brand these last ten years. Your support has been invaluable and we are deeply grateful.”
Fans of the brand will have one last chance to purchase their favorite pieces at a final physical sale on the 24th, 25th, and 26th of May at The Music Room, Mayfair, London, W1K 5JF.
Nick Cave, speaking about the brand in one of his Red Hand Files entries, said, “The work that we do — Susie with The Vampire’s Wife, and me with my own work — is a form of self-actualizing that emerges from the energy of our relationship.”
