Killeen Barber Shop Hosts Back-to-School Bonanza: Free Haircuts and Backpacks Galore
As the new school year approaches, Headquarters Upscale Barber and Beauty in Killeen, Texas, transformed into a hub of generosity and community spirit. On Saturday, the local establishment at 506 W. Jasper Drive opened its doors for a remarkable back-to-school event, offering free haircuts and backpacks to area students.
A Cut Above the Rest: Giving Back to the Community
Christine Toodle, the enterprising owner of Headquarters, spearheaded this initiative for the second consecutive year. “We’re doing back-to-school haircuts and braiding styles,” Toodle explained, highlighting the event’s focus on preparing students for their return to classrooms.
This year’s event marked a significant milestone, as it was the first time Headquarters hosted the giveaway at their own premises. Toodle, whose business benefited from an American Rescue Plan Act grant, saw this as an opportunity to express her gratitude. “It’s just my way of giving back to the city,” she affirmed.
A Community Comes Together
The event’s popularity was evident from the packed parking lot, with vehicles filling every available space and even spilling over into non-designated areas. The atmosphere was electric, with multiple vendors, sponsors, and even a food truck joining in to support the cause.
Local motorcycle clubs, including the Unleashed Beasts and Cycle Knights, played a crucial role in the day’s success. The Unleashed Beasts set up a tent near the shop’s entrance, distributing backpacks to eager students.
Surpassing Expectations
Toodle proudly announced, “We got donations for over 600 backpacks,” a significant increase from the previous year’s giveaway. Inside the shop, every seat was occupied as hair professionals worked tirelessly to ensure children looked their best for the upcoming school year.
The event’s success was undeniable. By noon, more than 200 people had already participated, with the festivities set to continue until 3 p.m. When asked about the event’s progress, Toodle responded with an enthusiastic, “Yeah. Absolutely.”
A Tradition of Caring
As Headquarters Upscale Barber and Beauty continues to build on this tradition of community service, it’s clear that their impact extends far beyond haircuts and styling. Through their generosity and the support of local organizations, they’re helping to ensure that Killeen’s students start the school year with confidence, style, and the supplies they need to succeed.
