From TikTok to Triumph
Ashley Mateo, the founder of Ashley Mateo Beauty Cosmetics, began her journey six years ago by posting makeup-related videos on TikTok. “I was just making fun makeup-related videos, and then the platform grew really fast,” Mateo explained. This growth provided her with the opportunity to launch her own makeup brand, which has since flourished.
However, success didn’t come overnight. Mateo faced numerous challenges and moments of doubt. “I would always tell myself, ‘It takes one day for a video to go viral,'” she recalled. Her persistence paid off, as her main TikTok account now boasts nearly 399,000 followers.
A Surprise Celebrity Customer
Mateo’s brand received an unexpected boost when Paris Hilton, a long-time icon for the entrepreneur, placed an order. Initially skeptical, Mateo’s husband confirmed the purchase was linked to Hilton’s verified TikTok account. “I was freaking out,” Mateo admitted, still in disbelief at the recognition.
The excitement didn’t end there. A year later, Hilton commented on one of Mateo’s videos, expressing her enthusiasm about using the products in her “BBA” music video. Unfortunately, a fire on the set destroyed Hilton’s makeup trailer, including the Ashley Mateo Beauty products.
Rising from the Ashes
Undeterred by this setback, Mateo plans to replace the lost items with a new order. “It just goes back to just knowing that any day that you wake up, could be the day that something like pops off, or a celebrity buys from your brand, or a video goes viral,” she reflected.
Future Aspirations
Currently a one-woman operation, Mateo envisions expanding her business to include her daughter and nieces in the future. The brand has also diversified into apparel, with a line called “I Own My Energy” managed by her husband, Steve Mateo.
