Crochet clothing is dominating the fashion scene in Indiana this summer, according to new research from fashion retailer Boohoo. An analysis of Google search data revealed crochet dresses and skirts surging in popularity across the state, thanks in part to the trend going viral on TikTok.
Indiana is one of 28 states where crochet has emerged as the #1 most sought-after fashion style. Nationwide, Boohoo found a massive 566% increase in Pinterest searches for crochet tops since February 2022. The revival of crochet in modern styles has resonated with Gen Z and millennial audiences on social media.
The research also showed low-rise jeans as the second hottest trend in 17 states including California, Arizona, Texas, and Iowa. Fringed clothing with hanging threads or cords ranked third, trending highest in Kentucky, Mississippi, Louisiana, and Arkansas.
Other fashion revivals spotlighted were sheer clothing, 70s styles, and metallic. Across categories, today’s top trends often originate from celebrity influence and pop culture moments.
For many, crochet offers a fresh take on summer fashion. The light, breezy fabric and intricate handmade look provide an effortlessly chic way to stay cool and stylish this season.
