In the world of fashion, anticipation builds for the launch of Kylie Jenner’s Khy clothing line on November 1. However, designer Betsy Johnson has come forward with allegations that the celebrity has borrowed heavily from her own concepts for this upcoming clothing line. During an interview to introduce Khy, Jenner claimed that the brand is a reflection of her true self, stating, “Creatively, I have a strong vision for my style and what I want to wear. No one dictates my choices.”
Betsy Johnson, a London-based, Grimsby-born multidisciplinary artist and director known for her expertise in creative direction, photography, casting, and styling, made waves on Instagram by accusing Kylie Jenner of copying her ideas. Johnson disclosed that she had shared concepts and line sheets for her PRODUCTS label, which was launched in September. She wrote, “We sent Kylie and her products.ltd team our concepts, language, and a line sheet six months ago. The resemblance is quite intriguing, Kylie… very intriguing. Thanks for the endorsement. Disregard your support.”
In addition, Johnson expressed her frustration, “While I’m grappling with my student debt and putting in hard work for this, just like numerous other working-class individuals striving to bring their visions to life. They weren’t born into opportunities like this.” She concluded by affirming her stance on the matter, saying, “I know who my supporters are, both within and outside of the fashion industry, and I’m grateful for them. If you want to marvel at uninspired celebrity merchandise and imitated business models, go ahead. Working people, on the other hand, don’t lose hope; we’re here for more than just fleeting collections and material gains. We’re playing the long game.”
