The inaugural fashion show fundraiser organized by AIR Artists proved to be a remarkable success, as affirmed by the delighted organizers. Titled “Timeless Fashions: A Tribute to International Fashion Designer Vicky Tiel,” the event unfolded on Saturday, April 6, drawing a sold-out audience and widespread acclaim. Set against the backdrop of the historic Andalusia Railroad Depot on South Cotton Street, the evening celebrated creativity and community spirit.
Sue Wiggins, the visionary behind AIR Artists, Inc./AIR Andalusia, and the Cotton Street Gallery, expressed her delight at the event’s reception. With a friendship spanning nearly three decades, Wiggins’ admiration for Vicky Tiel’s artistry was evident throughout the evening.
“Our fashion show and dinner were resounding successes. The overwhelming support from our community, resulting in a sold-out event, was truly heartening. It was a magical blend of old-world charm within the rustic confines of a century-old structure, adorned with exquisite clothing crafted from silk and antique lace fabrics spanning over four decades,” remarked Wiggins.
The evening commenced with a convivial gathering, providing attendees with an opportunity to mingle before the main event. Reverend Tim Trent extended a warm welcome, while Bill Alverson assumed the role of master of ceremonies. A captivating documentary paying homage to Vicky Tiel preceded a sumptuous dinner, accompanied by the melodious tunes of the band 55 South.
The highlight of the evening was undoubtedly the fashion show, accompanied by a lively live auction. A total of 16 models and four ushers graced the stage, showcasing an eclectic array of designs. Notably, 14 of the models hailed from the local community, reflecting the diverse talent within Andalusia.
Among the standout models were Victoria Anderson, Julia Avant, Ivanka Bzhezinska, Leah Kaltenbach, and Sophie Mancil, alongside others who captivated the audience with their grace and style. Noteworthy additions to the lineup included Avant, a reporter for WSFA-TV in Montgomery, and Kaltenbach, a close friend from Dallas, Texas.
Reflecting on the evening’s success, Wiggins expressed her pride in the local talent showcased at the event and hinted at more exciting endeavors on the horizon.
“The models from our community exuded confidence and sophistication, embodying the spirit of the global fashion scene. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who contributed to this memorable evening. Stay tuned for more enchanting events in the future,” Wiggins concluded.
Proceeds from the event were directed towards AIR Artists, a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting textile artists and preserving Andalusia’s rich textile heritage.
