Exciting news from YSL Beauty! In collaboration with global NGO Re:wild, the renowned beauty brand has unveiled two new rewilding programmes. This announcement coincides with International Rewilding Day and follows YSL Beauty’s remarkable achievement of “reawakening over 47,000 hectares of land worldwide.”
With nearly 75% of our planet’s natural habitats degraded and over 1 million species facing extinction, YSL Beauty is stepping up to make a difference. The urgency is clear, as more than half of Earth’s remaining wilderness is at risk of disappearing within the next few decades without immediate action.
The brand’s flagship initiative, Rewild Our Earth, aims to preserve and restore 100,000 hectares of wilderness by 2030. This vast area, equivalent to almost ten times the size of Paris, will serve as a sanctuary for biodiversity in threatened regions where YSL Beauty sources its ingredients.
Having already implemented successful programmes in Morocco, Haiti, Madagascar, Indonesia, and Canada over the past decade, YSL Beauty is now extending its reach to the Bahamas and Colombia. These locations are identified as biodiversity hotspots and are among the most endangered natural areas worldwide.
In the Bahamas, YSL Beauty is funding a dedicated rewilding team to safeguard the habitat of the critically endangered White Cay Iguanas. Meanwhile, in Colombia, the brand is spearheading efforts to restore 3,579 hectares of buffer zones within the Colombian Chiribiquete and La Paya National Parks, nestled in the heart of the Amazon.
