Fashioning a Sustainable Future: Couple Launches Eco-Friendly Studio in Pokesdown
In the charming seaside town of Pokesdown, a creative couple has set out to redefine the fashion landscape with their innovative studio, Fereday. Morgan Fereday and James Wilson have recently opened the doors to their working studio and store, offering bespoke clothing, reworked vintage fashion, and expert alterations – all with a sustainable twist.
Armed with a passion for sustainable fashion and a wealth of experience, the duo has transformed a former kitchen into a vibrant hub of creativity. Morgan, a lifelong Highcliffe resident, has been providing clothing alterations from her home studio for the past three years. However, it was her partnership with James that ignited a new spark of inspiration.
“When I met James, he suggested we should do the re-works,” says Morgan. “I never had the inspiration on my own, I was always focused on my alterations.” Together, they have expanded their offerings to include unique, one-of-a-kind pieces, breathing new life into vintage garments and creating custom designs for their clients.
From bespoke giant M&M’s costumes to transforming loved ones’ clothing into soft keepsake animals, the duo has tackled a wide range of requests. But their core focus remains on sustainability, with all Fereday patches made from scraps of material and reworked jackets paired with matching upcycled bags.
James, a former co-owner of a shop in Brighton, has brought his expertise to Pokesdown, determined to establish Fereday as a destination spot for fashion-forward consumers. “We have been trying to catch a younger audience, so creating statement pieces that are one of a kind,” he explains. “You get the best of both worlds.”
Despite the challenges of building a customer base in the area, the couple is confident in their ability to attract a loyal following. Morgan’s extensive client base for alterations, coupled with their reworked clothing collections advertised on Etsy and Depop, have already laid the groundwork for their success.
As Fereday continues to evolve, the couple’s commitment to sustainable fashion and community-driven approach is a testament to their vision for a more eco-conscious future. With their unique offerings and passionate approach, Fereday is set to become a beacon of style and sustainability in the heart of Pokesdown.
